Dining with Jesus: The Power of Intimacy with Christ

Updated: Feb 27

In a world filled with distractions, obligations, and constant noise, it is easy to neglect the most important relationship in our lives—the one with Jesus. At the recent Dining with Jesus conference, we explored the depth and beauty of true intimacy with Christ. Just as dining with someone signifies fellowship, connection, and sharing, our relationship with Jesus thrives when we make time to sit in His presence, listen to His voice, and receive His wisdom.

Why Is It Important to Spend Time in His Presence?

Spending time with Jesus is not just a religious duty; it is the foundation of a thriving spiritual life. When we cultivate a life of intimacy with Him, we are transformed from the inside out. Like Daniel, who prayed several times a day, we can develop a deep connection with God that shapes our character, strengthens our faith, and equips us to navigate life's challenges with divine wisdom.

  1. Intimacy with Jesus Provides WisdomThere are times when we feel unequipped, uncertain, or unworthy. Yet, the closer we get to Jesus, the more wisdom we receive. James 1:5 tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." When Daniel spent time in God’s presence, he was given divine insight that set him apart. His ability to interpret dreams and navigate complex political landscapes came from his deep relationship with the Lord.

  2. Intimacy with Jesus Strengthens Our FaithDaniel’s faith was tested, but his time with God prepared him to stand firm. When faced with the lion’s den, he did not waver because he had already cultivated a trust in God that surpassed his circumstances. The more we spend time in Jesus’ presence, the stronger our faith becomes, allowing us to stand boldly in the face of trials.

  3. Intimacy with Jesus Connects Us with the Holy SpiritTrue intimacy with Jesus is not about empty, repetitive prayers but about engaging in deep, meaningful communion with Him. Romans 8:26 reminds us that "the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." When we spend time in prayer, we are not just speaking—we are listening, receiving, and allowing the Holy Spirit to move within us.

Practical Ways to Cultivate Intimacy with Jesus

  • Set a Daily Prayer Time – Like Daniel, create intentional moments to meet with God throughout the day. Whether morning, noon, or night, be consistent in your pursuit of Him.

  • Engage in Worship – Worship invites the presence of God into our lives. It shifts our focus from the world to the One who holds all things together.

  • Read and Meditate on Scripture – God speaks through His Word. The more we immerse ourselves in it, the clearer His voice becomes.

  • Be Still and Listen – Intimacy is not just about speaking to God but also listening to Him. Allow moments of silence in your prayer time to hear His guidance.
