Why Do I Feel Lonely When God is Always With Me?

"I know God is with me... so why do I still feel so alone?"

Have you ever whispered that to yourself late at night? Or felt it creeping in during quiet moments of your day? You’re not alone in asking that question.

Meet Sarah's Story

Sarah was a strong believer. She served at church, read her Bible, and knew all the right things. But after walking through a tough breakup and some friendship fallouts, she found herself pulling away — not just from people, but even from God. She thought maybe it was safer to stay by herself, to avoid the possibility of being hurt again.

But the more she isolated, the louder the thoughts got:"No one really cares.""You're too much for people.""Even God is silent."

Can you relate?

What Sarah didn’t realize at first is that isolation wasn’t protecting her — it was trapping her.It was a trick of the enemy all along. The enemy knows if he can get us alone, he can start to feed us lies and distort the truth of who we are and how deeply loved we are.

How Sarah Overcame

It wasn’t a big moment that shifted things for Sarah. It was small steps of simply choosing connection again.

She started by texting a trusted friend and meeting up for coffee, even though she didn’t feel like it.

She showed up to a Bible study and just listened without pressure.

She whispered honest prayers to God, "Lord, I feel alone, but I know You haven’t left me."

And slowly, the walls she built up began to crumble.

She rediscovered the beauty of community and remembered that God’s love often flows through people.

Why Do We Feel Lonely When God is With Us?

Because we were created for connection — not isolation.God designed us to be part of a Kingdom family, to do life together. Even Jesus had His close circle.

When we isolate, especially after hurt or disappointment, we cut ourselves off from the very lifelines God has placed around us.

3 Simple Ways to Dilute the Desire to Isolate:

  1. Send One Honest Message

Text someone you trust: “Hey, can we catch up soon? I’ve been feeling a little disconnected.”

  2. Step Outside & Move Your Body

Isolation keeps us stuck. A simple walk or sitting in a coffee shop can remind your soul that life is still happening all around you.

  3. Talk to God Raw & Real

You don’t have to have fancy prayers. Just tell Him exactly how you feel — and ask Him to guide you back to safe connections.
